F1 22

F1 22 is the official video game of the 2022 Formula 1 and Formula 2 Championships developed by Codemasters

My Role

During the development of F1 22 I continued as part of the Internet Test Lab QA team responsible for all online game modes and services for F1 22. Following on from being part of the development for F1 2020 and F1 2021 I was now one of the most experienced testers on the team which meant that parts of my day to day job role changed from the previous two titles, I was involved in much more organisation for big player testing, I was a part of a small team leading testing on the alpha version of the game and maybe most importantly, it became my role was to pass the knowledge and experience I had learned on the past 2 titles to our less experienced testers.

F1 22 also came with its own unique challenges as we introduced several big online related features into the game for the first time, such as Crossplay across Xbox, PlayStation, PC and Origin systems and F1 life which brought a few changes to the online lobby system. While challenging, these were also great learning experiences.

During F1 22, I was also part of a small team that worked on the Alpha build of the game, as part of this team we worked on testing builds and features in the earliest stages of development, working with other developers to determine when certain features and the overall build stability would be ready to be considered Beta and could be distributed to the further testing team.

As part of the team, I worked across the three major game platforms: Xbox, PlayStation and PC, some of my tasks included:

  • Daily use of JIRA to submit, track and verify bugs.

  • Creating high quality bug reports with clear MOR's and clean and concise information.

  • The use of TestRail for functional and online test cases to ensure build quality for certification and launch game patches.

  • Working effectively and efficiently while using collaboration tools such as Teams.

  • Leading tests of both small and large player counts, including specifically focused testing or looser general testing.

  • Assisting less experienced testers during large player testing to help them gain the experience needed to run them solely.

  • Testing multiplayer Crossplay across Xbox, PlayStation, Steam and Origin.

  • Creating test sheets focused on specific testing and sharing them within the test team.

  • Using platform specific testing tools such as Xbox Manager and PIX.

  • Testing EA Origin builds.

Unlike F1 2020 and F1 2021, I only worked on the game up until the launch of the title and was not involved in anything post launch related.
